Comments: I live in Livingston TX, but wanted to travel to a more densely populated area to find a gastric surgeon, feeling I could find a better doctor there. I found Dr Garay in Kingwood and set up my first appointment. On my first visit, my deafness created a problem, since Dr Garay's plan involves education and planning to help assure the greatest percentage of success. Although many had told me before that I needed Hearing Aids, I hadn't ever followed their recommendations. Irene, in Dr. Garay's office, talked with me in her office, and her obvious caring about patients finally convinced me to get the HA's. Quality of life improvement #1 taken care of! The hearing aids are a blessing. There is a fairly involved process to qualify for gastric surgery, which is really good. This is not a decision to be made lightly, without knowledge of the whole situation. There were nutritional classes, physical education class, psychological evaluation, blood work, and more to complete before surgery.

Four weeks ago today, I had a gastric sleeve procedure done in HCA Houston Healthcare Hospital of Kingwood. It went smoother and easier than I thought was possible. At this point I have steadily lost weight without ever feeling weak, hungry, or bad in any way. I am down 32 pounds so far from my initial visit. I am doing this review now because it has become obvious I can reach my goal weight in due time. Believe me, I had tried on my own and just couldn't do it anymore. The almost magical part of this is that most ghrelin is produced in the portion of my stomach that was removed. Ghrelin is the hormone that makes you hungry and can drive dieters up the wall until they cheat and get a full belly. Small portions of food fill me up and I feel satisfied, allowing me to not even think about eating, but going about my life instead. I have no connection to Dr Garay or any of his staff other than me going there to pursue a better quality of life. I admit I considered this procedure for many years before acting on it. And, like everyone I have ever talked to about this procedure, now I wish I had done it sooner. Already many problems I was having are gone or reduced: weight of course, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, stamina while being physical, swelling of my feet, plus other things that are a bit too personal to list here. Now I understand why my cardiologist signed off on the surgery with no hesitation. If you desire an education on what all is involved before making a decision of this magnitude, contact Dr Garay's office staff.
